2026 Ecuador, part 2, Galapagos Day 4

January 24, 2026, Day 4 of the Cruise

We had the usual 7am wake up today and our first excursion was to Cormorant Point. It was wet landing and we did a short hike to see the Flamingos!

After the morning walk, we came back to the Coral 1 mid-morning because we were going to do a deep water snorkel before lunch. I accidentally fitted my phone into the underwater case about a millimetre off so I couldn’t use the camera! But thankfully Rich got a log of good pix and videos. It was a super cool experience to be so close to the shore and see the bottom just drop away under you, almost like an underwater cliff. There were lots of fishies and playful sea lions.

After the morning snorkel, we came back to the Coral 1 for lunch and then had a nice long break.

In 1793, a post office was installed on the north side of Floreana Island. It’s still there. So how it works is you drop off postcards there, and when other people from your country come by, they pick them up and bring them home and mail them. We have some for Canadians to mail.

Our guide sorting the postcards in the box.

After the post office, it was time for more snorkeling. AND WE SAW TURTLES. FOR REAL. ALL THE TURTLES. I could watch them for hours. They came so close to us that a few times both Rich and I thought the current was going to knock us in to them and we would gracelessly flail our limbs around in an effort to back up. They are so beautiful and the colours on them are so bright and the water was so clear. It was magic.
