Day 6 – Vik, Beach, Fox, & Solheimajokull Glacier – Thurs. Aug. 7, 2025

After the lava show we went walking around Vik and stopped in at a pretty cemetery on a hill with a church. You could see the whole town from there.

After we left Vik, we continued South, and stopped at a different viewpoint of the Black Sand Beach. We had seen these rock structures from the beach a few days earlier, but didn’t make it over. Now I wish we had left even more time for it, but alas we were only there for about an hour and didn’t have time to hike all the way down.

After this we hit the road for real, but stopped at another section of the huge glacier. This part is called Solheimajokull Glacier. We trekked to it for a kilometer or so and were again reminded that we had no perspective whatsoever of how big things are or how far away they are. There was a spot where Kai and I were looking down at a chunk of ice near the shore thinking that if we went down there we might be able to reach it. Later on our way back there were some people close to it, and we realized how big it actually was and that there would be no way we could reach it. So cool.

Also, we saw a wild arctic fox! And our only Bjork sighting.
