Day 7 – The Secret Lagoon, Friday, Aug. 8, 2025

We didn’t have time to go to any lagoons on our first pass through the Golden Circle so we decided to hit one of up on the way back. We chose the Secret Lagoon. FYI, not a secret. 🙂 It was lovely. I could stay in that water forever. After the lagoon, we headed straight back to the restaurant in the tomato greenhouse because it was so good. We did so much the day before we really just wanted to kind of relax for a day, check in to our campground earlier and just generally be a bit less rushed.

After enjoying the tomato restaurant again, we headed back toward Keflavik for out last night camping. We wanted to be close to where we had to drop the campervan off in the morning. On the way, we were again blown away by the scenery and how fast it changes. And, all of a sudden we encountered a vast field of hardened lava. I’m not sure what eruption it was from, but it just covered everything as far as we could see, and then all of a sudden it just stopped and went back to green.

Eventually we came across a spot where the lava clearly just took out the road. It’s hard to see from the pictures but the lava flow was really high, like over my head high. And in a couple of pictures you can see someone standing on the top of it (stupid), and you can see how high it is. There is also a shot of the volcano which had just stopped erupting two days before we got to the area. It’s still smoking.

While looking for a campground, we ended up at the very bottom of Iceland

These are the kinds of campers you see for people going on the F roads.
