Tour pt 1: Siena

We took a Tuscany tour. It was fantastic! I would say it was my favourite tour of the trip. We started in Siena which rivaled Florence back in the day. The only reason it didn’t grow like Florence did was the Bubonic plague decimated the population. They went from 50,000 people to 10,000 people.

It is a beautiful place about 90 minutes from Florence. They have these crazy horse taxes in July and August and literally EVERYONE attends. It’s practically to the death. The jockeys ride bare back and there are no rules. Some of the jockeys fly off their horses. It’s crazy. And each horse represents a neighbourhood and each neighbourhood is associated with an animal and has an insignia. You can see the insignias on the walls throughout the city. Here is a link to a video from one of the races.

Also, the Duomo in Siena is amazing and the inside of it is more spectacular than the one in Florence. Truly unbelievable.
